Fall In Love With the Layered Jewellery Trend

Layering: An overlooked styling technique

We tend to focus on styling the perfect outfit, often obsessing about what pieces work together. Could it be a cowl neck sweater with a smart pair of trousers and some snazzy loafers? Or perhaps, a well-fitting dress, hugging our curves in all the right places?

Sometimes, we bypass the one fashion accessory that can elevate our look altogether: jewellery. But more specifically, layering our jewellery and how we can make the pieces that we already own work for us.

So, what is layering?

This is simply putting together a combination of various pieces of jewellery to achieve a desired look. There is no right or wrong way to layer jewellery items as everyone has their own individual style and honestly, that’s the fun in layering; playing around with different looks until you find what works for you.

It’s worth noting that layering isn’t just for necklaces or chains. Sure, a beautiful impact can be made by adorning your décolletage, but you can layer with bracelets, rings, necklaces, and anklets too.

How do we layer our favourite pieces?

You can start by using the pieces you already have in your collection and when you’re ready to experiment further, you can discover the Elka London Collection. They have an array of ethically sourced gold-plated jewellery with semi-precious stones perfect for this layering trend.

Depending on your style and personality, you can choose more dainty pieces or more bold looks. Elka London covers both styles, and you can even do a variation of both depending on your mood. If we’re starting with necklaces, I would say to start with the shortest piece first and build out the look from there. Chokers are back and layering them with longer pieces adds interest to the look.

Bracelets are also a fun way to incorporate layering into your style regime. Elka London does dainty pieces but the stones definitely make a statement, so you get the best of both worlds.

Again, style these pieces using your own discretion and keen fashion eye but bear in mind that they can get tangled so to avoid the headache of having to detangle your jewellery, maybe keep it to 3-5 pieces max. It also allows each piece to have their own moment.

As for rings, this is one of those trends that can never be deemed overkill and really adds an intriguing pop to a look. Complimenting a classic manicure of just simply on its own, there is no rhyme or reason to how to go about making this look your own.

The beauty of layering is that each look can tell a story. Jewellery is a personal and intimate accessory, and this is why there is no right or wrong way to layer pieces. Have fun with the trend and don’t be afraid to make it your own!
